Leading edge cyber security experts have just launched the first Cyber Security apprenticeship programme, which includes GCHQ certified courses, at Plymouth Science Park.
The course is the first of its kind in the country and its purpose-built teaching rooms were unveiled by BluescreenIT (BIT) this week. It follows 14 years of continued growth for the company - which is fast becoming the ‘go to’ set of experts for delivering world class IT and cyber security training.
Recent investment includes offering access to £150,000 worth of state of art CISCO technology to meet the specialist requirements of the course.
This investment enables current (and future) IT ‘cyber stars’ to test their skills with the latest technology, which, coupled with industry experienced trainers, becomes highly motivational learning tools for both entry level candidates and industry leaders who might be looking to hone their skills.
BIT is first in the region to deliver the national cyber apprenticeship programme, alongside their other IT courses.
The programme provides industry recognised training, which is valid for two years. It also supports individuals and organisations looking to either enter the cyber security industry - or upscale existing skillsets.
Successful apprentices gain British Computer Society qualifications as part of the programme, which is supported by GCHQ together with some of the globe’s leading names in IT security.
Michael Dieroff, Chief Executive Officer, says: ‘We moved to Plymouth Science Park to keep ourselves in front of the curve by matching our future needs with the benefits the Park offers for growth and expansion.”
“There are many advantages to moving to PSP, it provides unrivalled networking opportunities with other growing tech companies.”
“PSP also allows access to some of the UK’s best connectivity which helps us innovate and deliver our range of training services online - as well as in the classrooms.”
“Finally, Chamberlain House projects an inspiring image for the level of training which individuals and companies can expect to receive, helping BIT to attract clients from all over the UK.”
“The company officially opened the centre as part of the launch of the HotSW Digital Partnership.”
“The launch showcased some of the outstanding work already taking place in the business community and introduce some of the national support that will be brought through the new partnership supported and delivered by some of the innovative training providers including BIT as one of the key stakeholders.”
Chair of the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership, Steve Hindley CBE DL, said: “This area has a lot to gain and a lot to contribute through this exciting new Digital Skills Partnership with the government, educational establishments, the public and the private sector.
“We are pleased to see Bluescreen IT, one of the partners in this new initiative, expanding their business at Plymouth Science Park, which is also one of the LEP’s part-funded Growth Deal projects that opened last year and was built with a contribution of £3m from our Growth Deal with government. These partnership projects are making a real difference to the growth and productivity potential for the whole of the Heart of the South West area.”
