The Ignite Festival of Creativity is an exciting new addition to Plymouth’s annual event Calendar. Ignite provides an opportunity to celebrate and showcase the amazing creative talents of recent and past graduates from both the University of Plymouth and Plymouth College of Art, whilst providing them with opportunities to stay and flourish in the region. The Ignite Festival is a key deliverable within the iMayflower programme jointly owned by the University of Plymouth and Plymouth College of Art.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to work at the interface between industry and academia to help drive the growth, productivity and resilience of the Creative Economy in the South West. You will play a crucial role in the successful delivery of iMayflower - a £6 million collaborative programme, designed to build Plymouth’s Creative Industries and nurture creativity across the city.

Leading the Ignite Festival of Creativity, you will provide specialist knowledge and expertise in order tosupervise and coordinate all aspects of the festival from conception to execution, through to post production and output reporting. This will include developing concepts and ideas that support the strategic direction of the festival in collaboration with the Ignite Festival Steering Group (IFSG); overseeing all operations; collaborating with Academic and Professional Services staff from both the University of Plymouth and Plymouth College of Art, and coordinating all the technical and production aspects of the event. Securing venues and equipment as well as operational management of the budget will also be a key part of the role. You will report on a monthly basis to the IFSG.

The Festival aims to:

  • Connect students with industry and reconnect both Institutions with Alumni.
  • Help students to move into professional practice or start up their own business.
  • Showcase the creative talent of students, Alumni and the general Plymouth public in the city and beyond.
  • Help retain talented students in Plymouth.
  • Create a notion of place - that Plymouth is a creative place to live work and visit.
  • Highlight the importance of interdisciplinary activity, principally between the Creative Industries and other key economic sectors in the Plymouth region.
  • Bring together key creative hubs and practitioners across the city.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the ideation, conceptualising and forming of ideas for the Festival.
  • Utilising your experience and event knowledge to help develop a plan for the execution of these ideas.
  • Providing specialist guidance and advice in coordinating all aspects of the festival.
  • Leading and coordinating all production and technical aspects of the Festival.
  • Developing and overseeing the event’s budget including seeking match funding.
  • Contracting vendors and staffing connected to the event.
  • Undertaking effective stakeholder engagement, networking and communication.
  • Ensuring event outputs are recorded appropriately for the purpose of the project reporting requirements.
  • Ensuring the Festival runs to plan, on time, within budget and meet key outputs.

This is a fixed-term part-time role for 13 months over a 2-year period.
