Grassroots music venues across Plymouth unite to create Fightback Plymouth

Date

We are thrilled to be working with Music Venue Trust to support and develop live music in Plymouth and are excited to announce more details about Fightback Plymouth.

Fightback Plymouth is a two-week celebration of Plymouth’s vital grassroots music venues that will take place 13 to 28 September. The campaign will encourage audiences to visit their local music venues and promote Plymouth’s emerging and existing musical talent, with live music every day throughout the festival at a whole range of venues right across the city.

Fightback's Gary Prosser said: “These venues are the backbone of the live music scene in Plymouth, providing spaces where artists can take their first steps, develop and grow. Fightback Plymouth provides an opportunity to showcase the fantastic range of artists and venues that Plymouth enjoys, celebrate the history of our music scene and support its future.”

Alongside more than 150 shows in 19 venues, the event will also host the showing of a short film “Our Growing Silence” narrated by actor Art Malik, panel discussions and networking.

Music Venue Trust CEO Mark Davyd said: "We are delighted to be working with Plymouth City Council on this public facing event which also provides the opportunity to research and survey the city's music venues and music scene. We will be working with local promoters, musicians and venue managers to understand the potential in Plymouth's Grassroots Music Venues and unlock the opportunity to build a world class music scene."

Councillor Tudor Evans, Leader of Plymouth City Council said: “It’s fantastic to be working with Music Venue Trust on Fightback Plymouth, which is going to give vital support to the local grassroots venues and musicians at the heart of our live music scene.

“Most importantly, this is our chance to prove how passionate Plymouth is about live music. I want to encourage everyone to show their support by getting out and enjoying the events on offer, visiting the brilliant range of venues and watching our talented local bands and musicians.”

Many venue bars will be further participating in the Music Venue Trust's fund-raising campaign by stocking Fightback Lager, a craft beer developed from within the grassroots music community. A donation from every pint and can sold gives financial support to the charity.

Fightback Plymouth is keen to interact with local Plymouth businesses to create a truly unique festival that unifies the Plymouth grassroots community. Contact gary@musicvenuetrust.com if you are interested in getting involved with the event.
