Enterprising idea to support Plymouth business

Date

Got a business idea but don’t know how to get it off the ground? Or perhaps you already run a business but could do with extra support? Well, digital help is now at hand.

We’re working with Enterprise Nation to create a Plymouth-focused digital platform that acts as a one stop shop for small businesses or pre-start entrepreneur. It opens a digital door to support services available locally, regionally and nationally, including national campaigns delivered by Enterprise Nation.

Users who sign up to Plymouth Enterprise Hub – which goes live today – will be guided through a journey to create their own personalised business support action plan.

They can benefit from accessing locally-provided support, from the Council directly, or by locally procured partners.

Users can get better connected to peer networking groups, including an Enterprise Nation ‘Local Leader’ network and can tap into a national network of trusted business advisers, all of whom are available to connect with, message, and engage with a free 30-minute discover call.

Plymouth City Council and its network of local providers and partners will promote the Enterprise Hub to existing networks of small businesses.

Emma Jones, CBE, founder and CEO of small business support platform and membership community Enterprise Nation, said: "We know entrepreneurs that take on board support to boost their business skills grow more sustainable businesses for the longer term, as well as building important resilience.

“We also know that business owners are time poor, so curating peer-rated support in one convenient place can make a significant difference.

“That's why we're delighted to be working with Plymouth City Council to develop the Plymouth Enterprise Hub which is exactly that – an inclusive one stop shop for small businesses with free access to tools, events and advisers allowing entrepreneurs to unlock their true potential."

Leader of Plymouth City Council Tudor Evans said: “Creating jobs and skills are a key priority for us and we want to encourage and support people who are running a business – especially those who have just started out.

“Last year there were almost 7,000 enterprises. That’s a lot of people having a go at running a business in a tough environment. We want to make it as easier for them to get the support they need to help their businesses thrive – whatever they are doing.”

The scheme is being funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Plymouth has lower start up rates than other parts of the country, so the aim is to offer an easy to navigate site for businesses.
