City College Plymouth has received another amazing accolade, winning the coveted 2018 Training Partner of the Year at the SEMTA (Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies Alliance) Skills Awards.
The SEMTA Skills Awards celebrate the 'Best of British' engineering and recognise talented individuals, inspiring businesses, skills and diversity from across all advanced manufacturing and engineering sectors.
The Training Partner of the Year Award, sponsored by Rolls Royce, recognises the excellence and achievement by a training partner in supporting and delivering training programmes for employers.
On collecting the award, City College’s Principal and Chief Executive, Phil Davies, said: “We are thrilled to be named as Training Partner of the Year. To go up against other deserving candidates and to win, is a real triumph. At the College we are committed to inspiring the next generation of engineers, promoting science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and designing our programmes to meet industry needs. The training we deliver at the College would not be possible without the support of our employer partners and our dedicated staff. I am delighted that our programmes and the positive impact they have on our students has been recognised.”
Ann Watson, CEO of SEMTA, said: “The success of our sector is paramount and in this Year of Engineering we’re delighted to take the opportunity to salute these incredible nominees and winners - and thank them for their drive, determination and achievements. They are fantastic role models for the next generation of young engineers - and as such should be lauded for their efforts.”
Over 500 people representing the best of British engineering attended the awards ceremony, which was held at the Park Plaza Westminster Hotel and hosted by BBC TV presenter and engineer, Steph McGovern. The event attracted some of the most prominent industrialists and skills organisations in the country including sponsors: Rolls-Royce, Jaguar Land Rover, MBDA Missiles, Siemens, British Aerospace Electronic Systems, EAL Training, the Education and Training Foundation, the Confederation of Shipbuilding, and the Engineering Unions Final.
