In celebration of National Manufacturing Day 2024 we recently sat down with Andy Webb, Business Development Manager at PTG Workholding to find out more about this amazing manufacturing business in the City.

What is the name of the company and how long have you been in Plymouth?

PTG Workholding and Precision has been manufacturing here in Plymouth for over 30 years. We are one of Europe's most respected and leading specialists providing Workholding machining solutions and Sub contract machining.

What is the sector that you specialise in?

PTG is an engineering company, we manufacture are own range of fixturing while also machining components within, Aerospace, Rail, Automotive technologies, Nuclear, Oil and Gas.

In 20 words, how would you describe the business?

PTG is a leading supplier of Workholding technology, and high-end Precision sub contact components.

Do you supply to Plymouth/SW/UK-wide/overseas?

Yes, we supply to Companies based within Plymouth but mainly ship products all around the globe from America to Australia.

What would you say was your best-selling product/service?

We pride ourselves on having a great team of people at PTG that help offer an all-round excellent service from the opening of an enquiry to the finished products. And that’s what I believe to be PTGs best USP.

What would you say is the best thing about doing business in Plymouth?

Plymouth is a fantastic city to not only do business but to live in, we have a certain way of life, the best of both worlds if you like a great business city with a beach next door.

And what of the future … where do you see PTG in 10 years’ time?

I see PTG continuing to grow, and invest in Plymouth while adding more products, and automation to fixturing, with a steady rise in staff numbers and revenue.

And how about yourself … how long have you worked at PTG and what is your role?

I have now worked for PTG twice, once as an apprentice from 2012 – 2016, I then left the business to take roles with-in igus and Cromwell before coming back to join the leadership team as a business development manager, earlier this year.

What is your biggest achievement to date, for either yourself or the business?

The biggest achievement so far would be an aerospace contact we are currently undertaking to manufacture fixtures for jet engines.

How do you spend your time outside of work?

Out side of work I enjoy playing golf or catching up with friends and family.

If you could have a business lunch with anyone who could significantly influence you/the business, who would that be and why.

Isambard Kingdom Brunel, in my opinion he is one of the best engineers to walk the earth, especially with what he achieved in such a short time frame and with the technology at the time.
