Thousands of spectators were treated to a firework extravaganza on 14 and 15 August as the British Firework Championships, in partnership with Associated British Ports, returned to the city for what was its 27th year.
Six teams, split up into three per night, produced truly memorable performances as fireworks large and small wowed spectators viewing from across the city on land, as well as on water.
Following a testing judging process, which ranked the performances on their rhythm, sequences, variety, use of colour and the wow factor, it was decided that BBB Fireworks, the third display on the second evening, had produced the most breathtaking display meaning they lifted this year's title!
While the Young People's Choice Award, sponsored by Plymouth Citybus, was won by Pyrotex Fireworks, who performed last on the first night of the fireworks.
This year's event was sponsored by Associated British Ports (ABP), whose support of the Championships further demonstrated their commitment to the city.
ABP owns and operates Plymouth's Millbay Docks and is currently investing in the maritime future of the area, by undertaking £23m strategic upgrade works to enhance the port’s freight capabilities, bolster its green credentials, and catalyse the growth of Plymouth’s thriving cruise market. These upgrades are a collaborative effort between ABP, Brittany Ferries, and the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport seed capital programme.
The British Firework Championships have become a staple, headline show in the glittering Plymouth events calendar. The free-to-attend event never fails to draw thousands of visitors to the city. Moreover, the championships bring a significant revenue to the local economy. They're not just two nights of entertainment; it’s a celebration of Plymouth and its community spirit.
