About Plymouth Culture

Plymouth Culture was established in 2013 to provide a cohesive voice for the cultural sector and drive strategic investment. The organisation has a small executive team but an extensive partnership and stakeholder network who we work with to align and deliver activity.

In March 2018 Plymouth Culture became a National Portfolio Organisation (NPO), securing core funding through Arts Council England (ACE) until March 2022. Plymouth Culture also receives an annual grant from Plymouth City Council (PCC) and in-kind support from the University of Plymouth.

In June 2019 Plymouth Culture became a registered charity, a structure that better fits its organisational mission as a sector support development agency. The organisation continues to provide strategic leadership for the sector with the aim of achieving the following impact:

  1. Culture is recognised and deployed as a driving force for placemaking, creating economic and social prosperity
  2. Commercialisation is sensitively and appropriately introduced to the sector to support sustainability
  3. The Creative Industries have an ecosystem in which they can flourish
  4. Cultural opportunities and experiences are accessible to a wide audience across the city
  5. The city has a shared cultural narrative to facilitate communication and partnership development on a national and international scale

The Role

Plymouth Culture is an independent charity established to support the strategic development of arts and culture within the city of Plymouth. As a sector development agency it is our mission to facilitate the growth and development of the sector by influencing policy making, securing investment, brokering partnerships and developing talent.

It is an exciting time for the city, and the organisation, as arts and culture sit at the centre of major developments including The Box, Mayflower 400, The Market Hall and British Art Show. This means that the city has a vibrant cultural scene but there is work to be done to achieve sustainability and identify the cultural opportunities and priorities for the coming ten years.

We are seeking to appoint a Sector Development Officer to work alongside the CEO. We are inviting applications from individuals who are passionate about culture in Plymouth and want to be part of shaping its future. We are particularly interested to hear from people with experience supporting cultural organisations to grow and develop. You will need to have experience in managing cultural projects from application development to project implementation and impact evaluation. It is essential that you have a background in partnership working and can operate at both an operational and strategic level.

We strongly believe in diversity of voice and as such, welcome applications from anyone regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.

If you would like an informal conversation about Plymouth Culture please contact Hannah Harris, CEO hannah@plymouthculture.co.uk or 07800850609.
