Plymouth-based manufacturing business, Lang & Potter, is expanding to take units at Plymouth City Council’s new developments, Oceansgate in South Yard, Devonport and Hearder Court at Langage Science Park.
Lang & Potter’s marine division is growing, with the company adding two more workshops to their four existing sites and creating 12 new jobs.
David Potter, Managing Director of Lang & Potter, said: “We’re proud to be a Plymouth-based business that is growing and expanding. Plymouth City Council’s new developments provide flexible spaces for us to base our business and the location of Oceansgate in particular means that we can be closer to our principal customers.”
Their marine company, which specialises in luxury yacht furnishings, have been working closely with Princess Yachts for many years and have become market leaders in their industry.
Councillor Tudor Evans, Leader of Plymouth City Council, said: “I am delighted to welcome another fantastic tenant to Oceansgate and Hearder Court. Expanding our marine and manufacturing industries is crucial to ensuring growth and better jobs across the city.
“The aim for Oceansgate was to create a marine enterprise zone which would bring suppliers and customers closer together, thanks to the site’s proximity to companies like Princess Yachts and Babcock, so it’s fantastic to see that providing real benefits for local businesses.”
Lang & Potter join the Marine Business Technology Centre, Maritime & Coastguard Agency, Surejust and Trend Marine as tenants in Phase 1 of Oceansgate, which was completed last year.
Steve Hindley CBE DL, Chair of the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “Oceansgate is a world class marine enterprise zone, and is part of the wider Heart of the South West Enterprise Zone package which provides prime sites for businesses in the area’s most valuable sectors.
“The LEP is proud to have supported the development of phase 1 at Oceansgate through its Growth Deal funding of £1.5m and a Growing Places loan of £5m. It’s an excellent example of partnership working with the council, the LEP, national and European government funding and the private sector. I welcome Lang and Potter to their new premises at Oceansgate and wish them every success here and at their other sites in Plymouth.”
Minister for Local Growth, Jake Berry MP, said: “The Government is committed to boosting economic growth across the whole of the UK so I’m pleased to see this new development attracting a wide range of innovative companies which will create high-value jobs for local people and help grow the local economy.
“This £1.5m Local Growth Fund investment in Oceansgate will support businesses in Plymouth to develop and put the city at the forefront of the UK’s world-leading marine sector.”
Work on Phase 2 of Oceansgate is expected to start later this year.
