Innovate UK and Sky Team up for £2m Ocean Plastic Solutions Investment Accelerator
This upcoming investment accelerator is providing simultaneous grant funding from Innovate UK (IUK) and private investment from Sky Ocean Ventures, for early stage projects undertaken by UK companies.
Up to £1 million of grant funding and £1 million of private investment is available, supporting business-led innovation to develop solutions that will tackle the environmental crisis of plastic pollution in the world’s oceans.
The competition is open to single UK-based small and micro companies that are looking for grant funding and wish to establish an equity relationship with Sky Ocean Ventures.
The competition will open on 2 January 2019 with a deadline for applications to be received of 13 March 2019.

Horizon 2020: 2018-2020 Mobility for Growth (H2020-MG-2018-2019-2020)
Transport is changing at an accelerating pace as a result of several factors in many diverse but interconnected fields: cutting edge technological innovations such as for example the increasing penetration of digital and space-based technologies in automated, connected and cooperative vehicles, transport infrastructure, logistics operations, aeronautics and safety applications; major socio-economic trends such as ageing population, migration and urbanisation; global targets such as those set by the COP 21 Paris Agreement on the fight against climate change and by the UN in support of Sustainable Development Goals; increased international competition for the European transport industry across all modes; new operations and business models based on increased connectivity between infrastructure, transport means, travellers and goods which can contribute to seamless door-to-door mobility.
The deadline for entries to be received is 16 January 2019.

Government Announces £60m Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Challenge
According to the government, the UK will be a pioneering nation in the development of sustainable packaging, on the back £60 million of new public funding.
Through the Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Challenge, innovators are being tasked with reducing the impact of harmful plastics on the environment, as the UK seizes the economic opportunity of a global shift to greener, cleaner economies – a key part of the government’s modern Industrial Strategy.
Funding will be awarded to projects on a competitive basis, with the government planning to launch the first round of the competition in early 2019.

HMRC Announces £5m Grant Scheme for Customs Intermediaries Ahead of Brexit
The government recognises the challenges facing the customs intermediaries sector in supporting existing and new clients when the UK leaves the EU. It has engaged with industry bodies and key providers of customs broker services – including freight forwarders, fast parcel operators and independent customs brokers – to better understand this challenge.
The deadline for applications to be received is 5 April 2019. Interested parties should apply at their earliest opportunity as funds may be fully allocated before this planned deadline.

Theresa May Announces £2.5 Billion British Patient Capital Fund to Invest in Innovative UK Firms
The Government wants UK technology companies to benefit from public funding and greater access to talent and data. In response to this desire, Prime Minister Theresa May announced a range of measures designed to boost the tech sector at the 2018 London Tech Week. Funding Project: WHE-STORVAL (Waste HEat Recovery, STOrage and VAlorization) [provisional]
University of Picardie, are looking for funding partners. This project is about Specific objective 2.1 Increase the development and uptake of existing or new low-carbon technologies in the sectors that have the highest potential for a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Project: ResponsiblE pharMacy practicE anD societY (REMEDY)
University of Portsmouth, UK are looking for funding partners. This project is about Specific Objective 3.2 - Enhance and protect coastal and transitional water ecosystems “pioneer utilising the role of the pharmacist to manage the impact of pharmaceuticals on the environment.” They are looking for potential partners defined as: Universities, research institutes, professional pharmacy organisations, commercial pharmacy organisations, pharmacy businesses, organisations involved in environmental toxicology, socioeconomic aspects of health and illness, public health and antimicrobial resistance.
