The Marine Business Technology Centre (MBTC), based in Plymouth, is holding a series of digital events in early November. The events are designed to bring together digital and marine businesses, with networking and learning opportunities centred around key industry challenges.

Free to attend, businesses from across Devon are invited to register their interest for the events, which will take place at Plymouth Marine Station:

  • Marine and Maritime Cyber Security, Tuesday 5 November, 9.30am to 4pm: speakers from University of Exeter, University of Plymouth, Frazer Nash, Bluescreen IT and Thales.
  • Immersive Marine Technologies, Thursday 7 November, 9.30am to 4pm: sessions will cover the National Marine Park and the digital opportunities it brings to businesses, the Mayflower Autonomous Ship project, examples of digital technology that could be applied to marine and examples of virtual and augmented reality activity in the marine sector.

Both events will also involve facilitated challenges and discussions, which aim to identify new projects that digital and marine businesses can work on together, with the support of the MBTC. With digital technologies already underpinning a lot of the marine sector’s innovations and becoming integral to the sector’s advancement, the interplay between marine and digital is crucial.

The MBTC, which exists to support Devon-based SMEs, is a partnership led by Plymouth City Council with the University of Plymouth, the University of Exeter, Plymouth Marine Laboratory and the Marine Biological Association. The centre has received £2.6 million from the European Regional Development Fund alongside contributions from all the partners, bringing the total investment to £4.5 million.

Businesses can register to attend the free immersive and cyber events on Helm Tickets:
