Diane Gilpin, the founder and CEO of Smart Green Shipping Alliance has been confirmed as one of the keynote speakers at Plymouth’s Marine Tech Expo from 30 June to 3 July 2020.

Designed to demonstrate the South Coast's marine credentials to the world, the expo will bring together the decision makers, innovators and enterprises involved in the latest advances in marine technology with a focus on autonomous applications and sustainable marine developments.

Speaking at the expo on 2 July, Diane will share her expertise on the shipping industry and how the industry is making efforts to become more sustainable. The Smart Green Shipping Alliance is a collaborative industry initiative designed to develop technically, commercially and environmentally superior systems solutions for shipping.

Diane has worked for years at the cutting edge of communications, technology, innovation and systems design, including with several Formula One motor racing teams and offshore yacht racing teams. As a pioneer of renewable energy, she advises the UK government as a member of the Clean Maritime Council.

Organised by Plymouth City Council with the support of key industry partners from across the city, this year’s Marine Tech Expo will take place at Turnchapel Wharf in Plymouth.

Council Leader Tudor Evans said: “The Marine Tech Expo really demonstrates the impressive breadth and depth of marine enterprise and innovation that we have here in Plymouth, with new developments including the Marine Business Technology Centre and Oceansgate, the first marine enterprise zone in the country.

“We’re incredibly proud of how the expo itself has grown and the vital opportunities it gives businesses from across the South West to network and collaborate.”

The first Marine Tech Expo was held in 2016 and was a sell-out success. This year’s event encompasses the 64th Marine Measurement Forum on 30 June and Plymouth’s STEM conference on 3 July. The main expo includes two conferences: Autonomous Applications on 1 July and Sustainable Marine Developments on 2 July.

Plymouth will also host the Maritime UK awards on the evening of 1 July, as well as the Nautical Institute’s Annual General Meeting and International Conference.

This collection of conferences will provide a platform for businesses to showcase, network and collaborate with the world class marine technology sector that exists in the South West.
