What is the name of the company and how long have you been in Plymouth?
Pyropress Limited, which was founded in Bedford in 1951 and relocated to Plymouth half a century ago in 1974, when the business moved into our then brand-new purpose-built facility in Bell Close.
What is the sector that you specialise in?
The products are suitable for harsh environments in energy and marine sectors, being process control instrumentation, and warning beacons and sounders.
In 20 words, how would you describe the business?
Pyropress is a fantastic company, which for over 70 years has built a solid and impressive reputation for high quality, reliable and durable products.
Do you supply to Plymouth/SW/UK-wide/overseas?
Pyropress supplies products worldwide, from Devonport Dockyard and all over the UK, to every continent of the globe. Around 50% of output is shipped overseas.
What would you say was your best-selling product/service?
The bestselling products of Pyropress are stainless steel bodied pressure switches, designed and approved for safe use within explosive atmospheres.
What would you say is the best thing about doing business in Plymouth?
The diverse and beautiful surrounding natural environment, with a great pool of available talent.
And what of the future … where do you see Pyropress in 10 years’ time?
Pyropress will continue to grow, especially with the integration of our recent acquisition Ex-tech Signalling, which enables us to access new markets. Within 10 years, I firmly believe we will have increased the business in the UK, and especially in export markets.
And how about yourself … how long have you worked at Pyropress and what is your role?
I am the Managing Director and have worked at Pyropress since 2012.
How do you spend your time outside of work?
As well as spending time with family, I train and compete at middle-distance running with the City of Plymouth Athletics Club and enjoy cycling, with the bicycle being my first choice of machine for the year-round daily commute to Pyropress.
If you could have a business lunch with anyone who could significantly influence you/the business, who would that be and why?
My dream business lunch would be with Jürgen Klopp, to learn from his experience in supporting and developing the entire team where everyone can give their best, whatever their role.
